As mentioned on our
'Grading Rules' default page,
the minimum requirements for FAS 1 Face, Selects and #1 Common
grades define the poorest piece but must contain
all boards up to a clear board in each grade. |
|
The #1 Common Grade must yield a
minimum of 66-2/3% Clear Face Cuttings up to a
clear board. The clearest board defined in
the NHLA Rules Book is a board of #1 Common with a one foot
surface measure. The NHLA Rule Book states that a
minimum size board of kiln dried #1 Common lumber
(2-1/2" x 4') must be "clear both faces". |
|
Note: |
Smaller boards in all NHLA Grades provide clearer lumber |
|
Short, narrow boards are a real bargain. |

The
above illustration of #1 Common lumber define pieces of the #1
Common Grade. Boards with a 4 foot surface measure must
yield a minimum of 32 cutting units (Foot Long Hotdogs).
The top illustration contains 32 cutting units (the minimum)
and the lower illustration contains 45 cutting units.
These illustrations are examples of the minimum and higher
requirements of the #1 Common Grade. |

Note: |
All
examples and illustrations on our site apply to standard
grading rules. Certain species of hardwoods are graded
under "Special Rule". Please call Hogan Hardwoods &
Moulding for any "Special" NHLA Rules that may apply. |
