Maximum FAS Face Board ― Clear

The above illustration is Clear Face board that exceeds all grading minimums for the FAS grade.  Therefore, the Clear piece is an FAS grade board.

NOTE:  The FAS 1 Face and Better grade requires the best Face must meet the minimum requirements for the FAS grade and the poor face must grade #1 Common or Better.  The logic concerning the terminology of the FAS 1 Face and Better Grade....the best face is FAS and the poor face is #1 Common or Better.

Minimum FAS Board

The above illustration is of a 12 foot surface measure board with two outlined Clear Face cuttings.  A board meeting the NHLA grading minimums for a Face grade of FAS must yield 120 cutting units (Foot Long Hotdogs) S.M. x 10.  This illustration meets the minimum of 120 cuttings units (63-1/4 + 57-3/4 = 121 cutting units).  Assuming the poor side of the board grades at least #1 Common, the NHLA grade is FAS 1 Face.

Selects Grade

For the most part, the Select Grade mirrors FAS One Face Grade with a few exceptions.  These exceptions are:

Minimum Board Size: 3-1/2" x 6'
Wane Rules: Narrow and short boards must contain less wane than larger boards
